Storytelling aside, who has the best art?
Talk about your yaoi or shounen-ai favourit pairing, your favourit manga, your favourit scanlations, your favourit yaoi or shounen-ai anime, the worst yaoi or shounen-ai anime, your license wishes, or who you would pair with whom...

;) Minase Masara is in my opinion one of the best artists. Her characters are always so gorgeous and hot. Fuwa Shinri is another mangaka I adore. Fuwa Shinri's artistry again like Minase's is gorgeous, great looking ukes and semes, and hot. Both mangakas manage to keep romance amidst the relationship troubles that characterize a lot of yaoi mangas. Though I have to say that a good storyline only makes the artistry sweeter. If the story is inane, stupid or illogical, I won't stick around for the end no matter how good the artistry is.
I couldn't agree more! Except I have to admit that I often keep reading if the art is really good even if the story is bad. Yes, I'm an addict.
Fuwa Shinri is a mangaka that I think has really improved through her career. I don't care much for her early work at all, but her more recent work is really great. I especially like Yebisu Celebrities and Gravity Eyes.

Forgot to mention Yamane Ayano, I'm not too crazy about her stories (though they are interesting and nice, just not my fav) but her artwork is very pretty. Sakurai Shushushu could also draw very prettily is she wants, I think, though her awesome/nutty sense of humor kinda stirs her works towards something less pretty (or so it seems)

Hey, I have another one. Fumi Yoshinaga. Just read her Moon and Sandals and Ichigenme... What a great storyteller and the sex isn't all that shabby. Gerard and Jacques was a bit of a surprise. I didn't think it was going to be good since it was based on the time of the French revolution and I never cared for history in school but... Yoshinaga's drawing style is one of the best as far as I'm concerned. The characters are drawn realistically and proportionately. Yes, I got sucked in big time.
Of course when I get hooked on a mangaka, I will buy their manga when money and time permits....hoo hoo.

For me the most most most beautiful artist was the late great Asami Tohjoh. Yes I am still missing her, so sad she left Love Prism unfinished. But it could be because it was her story of Denkou Sekka Boys that really got me hooked on yaoi manga....(wipe a tear)
Ah hem, back to the subject.
No. 2 on my list would have to be Minase Masara, Kitakami Ren, Nishimura Syuko, Hidaka shoko, Oumi shinano, Rokuya Sanae, Shiuko Kano, Takashi Kanzaki, Yamada Yugi, Sadahiro Mika.....etc.
As far as writing a bad story and still having good art work, I think there are quite a few mangas I have read that I should have stopped after the first chapter, but couldn't stop looking at the art.
My personal preference is manly looking men such as Sadahiro Mika's art work in Undergrand Hotel. Which just happened to be a really great story as well.

i guess my vouch would be for Tohjoh Asami, but only for her mid-career works. towards the end of her career her art style changed a lot and in my opinion, it's lost a lot of its stylistic charm and ended up looking too mainstream. i can't say anything about her stories though, they're all very good i think.
i love Masara Minase for her art as well. it's simple and clean. although sometimes her characters end up looking alike cross-series
another one of my favorite artists is Takashima Kazusa. absolutely loved her work on Wild Rock. another one is Norikazu Akira (Kyou Hana no Gotoshi), aaand Homerun Ken (Maigo, Boku wa Kimi no Tori ni Naritai) :3
as for "unusual styles", my favorites are Naono Bohra (probably the awesomest and most unique), Yamada Yugi and Kanno Keiko. XD

1- Minase Masara (I just love how she draws)
1- Tohjoh Asami
I really miss her (his?) stories..
2- Watanabe Asia
I found her like 4 days ago and fell in love with her art. She started a while ago and had the tipical old school style, but she developed and changed it and now it's just beautiful, her guys are stunning. In my opinion the best draws I've seen by her are those in Nibiiro no hana. They are just gorgeous.
3- Yamane Ayano
I love how she draws Asami and Fei Long.. In the beginning of VF her art was crappy (at least that's what I thought when I started her manga) but when I was by the third or so I changed my mind.
4- Yamato Nase
5- Kanbe Akira
One I hate with aaaall my might is Chitose Piyoko... I just can't stand it...
And I've seen lots of people like Naono Bora (I know I wrote it wrong but you know who I mean) and I don't like her art... not really my style..
